Rod McRae — painter

Haunting landscapes

After the show at Pinacotheca, I moved away from direct figuration - the paintings became more abstract, with a haunting atmosphere as the figures gradually disappeared altogether. At the same time, the forms started to break down, so that the spaces I had been creating were suggested more by a series of marks than the figures which had previously articulated them.

In 1986, a year after the show at Pinacotheca, I had my first show at Watters Gallery in Sydney.
