CollageThe image of the hulk needed a thorough exegesis, so I developed a larger version, which, being an unusually centred image, needed support on each side from a flanking image derived from a synthesis of Durer's etchings and one of my paintings from 1988, 'Swell'.At this time there emerges a strategy of working in two different directions. One, choosing subject matter more or less specifically, possibly worked up on the computer, in advance. The other, working completely intuitively on the canvas, without preconception of how it will turn out. I was tending to create large scale pieces by the former method, and smaller, more experimental ones, by the latter. link to associated show: Watson Place Gallery 2005
